Employee Charged With Trying To Poison Boss
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- A University of Miami employee is charged with trying to poison his boss with liquid mercury fumes in an act of revenge.
Coral Gables police said 58-year-old Robert Friedlander sprinkled the substance in the cubicle of Albert Williams because he was upset about a written reprimand issued for cursing.
Williams suffered a rash, fever, swelling of the joints and dizziness. He spent three days in the hospital.
Friedlander is a specialist with the school's collections department. Williams is the department's associate director.
The arrest came after a five month investigation. Investigators are trying to determine where Friedlander got the mercury.
Friedlander is facing a charge of felony battery. He was released from jail Thursday on $5,000 bond.
School officials did not immediately return a telephone call.
